Branston Shoup purchased Middlebury Bus Line and began to expand
1953
John Shoup took over the business after the passing of Branston Shoup
1954
Shoup Buses, Inc. and Cardinal Buses, Inc. formed by new owners John and Margaret Shoup
1982
Acquired All State Bus Charters to prepare for expansion into Western Michigan
1990
Acquisition of United Limo in Mishawaka, IN, lead to expanded operations in Eastern Indiana
1998
Companies purchased by a national consolidation company
2001
Cardinal Buses Inc. bought back by the Shoup family
2009
Awarded group and team travel for Indiana University at South Bend and Manchester University
2012
Notre Dame awarded Cardinal Buses the campus shuttle program
2017
Trine University awarded Cardinal Buses group and team transportation agreement
2018
Named winner of United Motorcoach Association Vision Award – Large Fleet
2019
Acquired by Wisconsin-based GO Riteway Transportation Group, becoming one of the largest regional providers in the Midwest. GO Riteway provides School Bus service to more than 38 school districts along with robust Ride Services that include Motorcoach, Minicoach, Shuttle Bus and Private Car offerings.

A History of Outstanding Transportation Service
In 1923, Branston Shoup purchased the Middlebury Bus Line, which consisted of a 5-passenger Model T touring cars servicing routes from town to town in Indiana. The service expanded over the years with the addition of other vehicles. Upon Branston’s death in 1953, his son John took over the company and expanded into the charter bus business with the purchase of Cardinal Buses.
Then, in 1998, the Shoup group of services was sold to a consolidation company. However, the Shoup family bought back the rights to the operations in Middlebury, Indiana, and Holland, Michigan. Cardinal Buses was back, once more providing quality professional charter bus services.
GO Riteway acquired Cardinal Buses in 2019, stepping in as our parent company to oversee our operations in Michigan and Indiana. With GO Riteway’s commanding presence in Wisconsin and Northern Illinois, our companies are committed to providing unparalleled transportation services in the Great Lakes area and beyond. We are your regional transportation provider of choice, driving you throughout the Midwest to wherever the road may take you.
